More and more growers and houses are committing to environmentally friendly practices. But what does **organic Champagne** really mean? Let’s break down the certifications and the different approaches.

## Organic Champagne: what the label guarantees

An **organic Champagne** is certified under the European regulation for organic farming (the **AB** label / Euroleaf logo, verified by bodies such as Ecocert). In practice, this bans synthetic herbicides and pesticides in the vineyard and regulates cellar practices. Conversion takes several years, which is why the offering remains limited but is steadily growing.

## Organic, biodynamic, sustainable: don’t get them confused

- **Organic**: an official regulatory framework, with no synthetic chemical inputs.
- **Biodynamics** (notably the **Demeter** label): goes further, with a holistic approach to the ecosystem and the use of natural preparations.
- **Sustainable viticulture / HVE**: regulated environmental approaches (including the **Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne, or VDC** certification) that reduce impact without necessarily being “organic.”

These mentions appear on the back label. Our [glossary](https://champagne-discovery-tours.com/en/glossaire/) helps you decode the rest.

## Does organic Champagne taste better?

The organic label concerns the **production method**, not a promise about flavour. That said, many organic Champagnes are the work of **growers** who pay close attention to their terroir, something that often comes through in the personality of the cuvées. As always, the best approach is to compare them at a tasting.

## How to find it

- Look for the **AB** or **Demeter** logos on the bottle.
- Favour committed **grower-producers (RM)**, easy to spot in our [directory of houses](https://champagne-discovery-tours.com/en/maisons/).
- Ask for advice during a [visit or tasting](https://champagne-discovery-tours.com/en/visites-degustations/): producers are always happy to talk about their practices.
