Wine-Tasting Weekend in Champagne: A 2-Day Reims–Épernay Itinerary

Two days are enough to taste the essence of Champagne: the great cellars of Reims, the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay and the vineyard landscapes. Here is a wine-tasting itinerary ready to follow.

Day 1 — Reims and its chalk cellars

Morning. Start with a cellar visit at a major Reims house: a descent into the UNESCO-listed chalk cellars (crayères), an explanation of the method and a first tasting. Book the day before (see our guide to visiting a cellar).

Midday. Lunch in the town centre, then a stroll around the coronation cathedral.

Afternoon. A second house or a Champagne bar to compare styles — our tips in Champagne tasting in Reims.

Evening. Overnight in Reims or heading towards Épernay.

Day 2 — Épernay and the vineyard

Morning. Head to the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay: a walk and a visit to an iconic house (see what to do in Épernay).

Afternoon. A loop through the vineyard — the Côte des Blancs (Chardonnay) or the Montagne de Reims — with a stop at a grower for a more intimate tasting. Find them in our directory.

Where to stay

Reims and Épernay offer the widest choice, from charming hotels to guest rooms at the grower’s estate. Staying near the Avenue de Champagne lets you enjoy the tastings without getting back on the road.
